For family and close friends, my Sprinkles Cupcakes obsession is nothing new. Since I had my first cupcake from their original Beverly Hills store during my freshman year of college, I have been a huge fan of their red velvet cupcakes. At one point, I was so addicted that I would go at least twice a month if not twice a week. That is obviously not quite the healthiest thing in the world to do, so I started to make trips to the bakery a rare treat rather than part of my routine. Still, it was always so nice to know that I could make the fifteen-minute drive to grab the most delectable and perfect cupcake.
I am not kidding when I say that I am a loyal fan. Every time I left Los Angeles for months at a time, I would make a quick stop to grab a red velvet cupcake and savor every bite. After my first summer interning in Washington, D.C., I begged a few of the store’s employees to open up a branch for Washingtonians. Though I do pick up cupcakes at a few of the popular and accessible bakeries in town, for me, there is nothing like Sprinkles.
Luckily, my prayers have been answered! This Thursday, Sprinkles Cupcakes in DC will have its grand opening. Today, its newest branch hosted a pre-opening party. All attendees were given two free cupcakes and even got the chance to meet the founder, Candace Nelson. I was beyond thrilled. Now, I suppose it is time for my sugar coma to set in.
