This year’s Miss DC pageant was such a thrill to experience! I live with Miss DC 2009 Jen Corey, who served as the producer for the pageant, so I was able to learn a ton about all the work that goes on behind the scenes from Day 1. Let me tell you – there is so much that goes into putting together a pageant! Since Jen gives makeup consultations, it was also fun to meet a few contestants who dropped by the apartment! I was able to watch a couple makeovers and picked up some new makeup tricks myself along the way.
At the pageant, Jen put me to work as a greeter. After all, I am extremely outgoing and love to meet new people. It was absolutely wonderful to meet the other volunteers and try to figure out which contestant would go home with the crown! While it was not an easy experience by any means of the word because it got quite hectic dealing with seating arrangements and selling programs, it was well worth it.
In between the work, we got to see the entire pageant! Watching the three Miss DC’s that I am close to (Jen, Kate Michael, the founder and editor of K Street Kate, the online magazine I contribute to, and Sonya Gavankar McKay, a host of The District Dish, the weekly show that I am a videographer for) on stage was a blast – they all did such a great job as the show’s emcees. Then of course, the pageantry was very much alive and well with the swimsuit competition, the nerve-wracking on-stage question, talent portion, and the glamorous evening gown competition. I definitely enjoyed every second of it.
Congratulations Miss DC 2011!
