“Life is about relationships, the rest is just details.”
At the end of the day, what matters most isn’t the new outfit from RueLaLa (though I do love that site), the bracelet on my wrist, the car I drive, the apartment I live in… at the end of the day, I am most concerned about the people in my life who bring me joy and laughter.
This concept is so simple, yet so complicated and so easily lost in the shuffle of the everyday hustle and bustle. Children know intuitively that relationships matter most. If I ask my six and four-year-old nieces what the most important thing in their life is, they’ll tell me their family. While they will fight tooth and nail with each other when playing with their toys, they know that their mom, dad, baby brother, and grandparents are most important.
Of course, relationships are not always easy nor are they meant to be. We were all made to be unique individuals with distinct personalities and divisive opinions and beliefs. Accepting and loving people as they are can seem absolutely impossible, but that is what we are called to do.
So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you.
