Fellow Washingtonian Barbara Van Dahlen is truly an inspiration! Founder of Give an Hour, an organization that attacks the epidemic of PTSD – posttraumatic stress disorder. Van Dahlen mobilizes thousands of mental-health professionals to volunteer countless hours of counseling for those in need at a time when there is a critical shortfall in our military and throughout the nation. In addition to serving those who have served in uniform, she makes a difference by helping break through the stigma that prevents many of servicemembers from seeking the help they desperately need as they transition from active soldiers to civilians – all while utilizing the resources at hand and opening up opportunities for those seeking to give back to our brave men and women.
In the words of Admiral Mullen, former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff: “She has served thousands nobly and has been an extraordinary example for all of us in her life and her giving.”
